hey now, you're a rockstar....

so, kellyn just shit herself while playing "hey now, you're a rockstar, get your show on, get paid..." on the paper jam guitar...

i take her to the bathroom for her to then have the poop fall off her ass onto my bathroom (washable) carpet. {awesome}

she gets onto the toilet, pees... wipes and then pulls the tp out instead of dropping it, which meant more poop on the toilet seat.

then instead of putting it down "in front" she decides to drop it "behind" her... more shit on the seat...

then takes that hand to brush hair away from her eye...

yup, you guessed it... poop on her face and in her hair.

needless to say, she just got out of the tub.

the joys....

oh... and BTW

"they" rang our doorbell this morning just after 830am...

"we need to turn off your water, there was a water main break"

YEAH.......

just what i wanted!  no electricity for 5 days, and now I have no water to do anythng!!

better get out my galoshes... when it rains, it pours!

my {in}famous july 4th weekend....

Oh, lets take a little trip...  a trip back in time.  lets get the flux capacitor warmed up so we can go back to 7/1/2011.

Can you feel the buzzin?

{poof}

Here we are.

We had a great friday.  Brian and I went to the DYC (stop it, you perverts), that's the Detroit Yacht Club... I know, I know... fancy.  Brian's co-worker at the union plays in a jazz band, and invited us down.  So, we got FREE babysitting from our friends Bob and Marie...  {score!}  found our way onto belle isle, and walked into the swanky joint.

found our way onto the patio, talked to the "big-wigs" and got a table.  I had a greek salad and what i thought were the appetizer crab cakes, however she put in an order for the meal.  ugh, that was a lot of food...  (but they were A.W.E.S.O.M.E!)  we had some drinks, listened to the music.... saw my orthodontist (lmao!) but he didn't see me...  although, there is something innate that makes you instantly want to brush your teeth when you see him in public.  i can't describe it, but even brian laughed at me.  and YES, I WAS WEARING MY RUBBERBANDS.

fine, dandy... good night.  had some drunken 20somethings next to us part of the way home on jefferson.  that was funny. (passengers, not sure about driver)

Got the kids and headed back to dearborn to pick up the {twerps}.

Saturday, i can't remember what we did during the day but around 7somethign we were outside blowing bubbles, playing etc.. came in just in time to see the trees start blowing like crazy and then the rain/hail came down.

and then the power went out.  a HUGE tree from the far side of the neighbor's yard fell down across their yard (narrowly missing their garage and house) into our yard.  It didn't take the "polite route" it went right thru the freakin' fence.  there was also limbs down from our trees... but you don't expect to look out the boys bedroom windows and see GREEN LEAVES on both sides of the corner, nor do you expect to see them upto our windows on the 2nd floor.  Guess we're blessed that there wasn't a sunroof instantly installed in my house!

"welcome to DTE, we estimate your power to be turned on between 930-1130 pm"

{sigh} ohh,, good!

its the next morning.  still no power.

"welcome to DTE, we estimate your power to be turned on between 930-1130 pm"

So, sunday we go get ready at the inlaws and head over to ray and dawns for a cook-out/swimming lazy afternoon...  fun!

get home....

still no power.  its 11:16pm.  pretty sure we're not getting power tonight.

oh, btw, braden has yet another irrational fear of candles that aren't in glass containers.  heaven forbid the flame rises above the candle...  {eye roll!}

wake up....  call DTE.

"welcome to DTE, we estimate your power to be turned on between 930-1130 pm wednesday, july 6th."

WEDNESDAY?  DID IT REALLY JUST SAY WEDNESDAY?!?!?  They realize this is MONDAY, right?

I am stuck in DTE HELL.

So, we unload the freezers, and take them over to brian's parents' house before everything {ROTS} in ours.  The fridge is a goner (thankfully we needed to shop, so it was pretty empty).  But c'mon!!

maybe they're just tellin us wednesday to give us the long end of things...

for the next couple days we're left to showering at the inlaws, hanging out there cuz its cool and there's light..  (oh, and internet).  It's soooo super hard to explain to kids that they CAN'T watch a DVD or play WII.  They don't get the "no power" concept.  I mean, it is, technically, invisibile.  you just see what power runs when it's working....  so "electricity" is kind of a hard subject.  although, i can say i got sick of saying, "you can't do that, there's no power" over the last few days.

I get up tuesday, go to work... go back to the inlaws, check DTE's website...

"power restored"

ELATION.

I tell brian...

He stops by the house.  NO POWER.

DTE FAIL.

I submit a new ticket basically telling them they are "fucktards" and spend (more) time at the inlaws.

this just goes to show, you can't believe everything you read on the internet.  =P

so now, i've lost my trust in DTE.  I mean....  wouldn't you?

we go home to more candlelight {boredom}.  I have never felt so Amish in my life.  LMAO!  All i was missing was the horse drawn buggy with that orange triangle on the back.  and i'm guessing that if i could get in touch with an amish person, i'd have one of those before DTE gets the power restored.  I know this, cuz I lived in BFE before being "upgraded" to Detroit.  (wait, upgraded?  maybe that's the wrong word...)

AHHH...  Wednesday's a new day.  I didn't even check-in with DTE...  what's the point.  It seems they don't know the difference between having electricity and NOT having electricity...

Worked all day, Brian updated me that at 2pm we still had no power...  this is just 6 hrs short of 5 DAYS WITH NO ELECTRITY.

***Rant alert***

I know, I know...  the people of hurricane Katrina didn't have electricity, water, food, homes for way longer than that....  BUT I DON'T LIVE IN FUCK'N NEW ORLEANS!!!!!!!!   I am not in hurricane-ville, USA.  I have common sense.  I live in the north.  We have that white, cold stuff for like 9 months of the year...  We drive on ICE, our cars RUST from salt on the roads.....I fail to see where a 10 minute storm can cause 5 freaking days of "the amish life" and be acceptable.

It was a THUNDERSTORM, not a TORNADO.  there was NOT {weapons of} MASS DESTRUCTION.

I get that it was a holiday weekend... but c'mon.  My holiday weekend was 1/2 bombed out because the crews that were "on call" for DTE were too "bombed" to come into work.  I'm glad DTE isn't an ambulance company....  there'd be bodies everywhere...  I think they need to re-evaluate how they run their system.  What sense does it make to have crews for emergencies if they're not gonna come in anyways?  And then DTE has to go and contract crews from other states to fix the problem here?

I guess those guys get paid too good... they must not need the money like the rest of the Detroit metro population.

BET YO' ASS i'd show up on a holiday weekend to make $100 an hr....

BET YO' ASS!!

***end rant***

anyways, the power was turned on somewhere between 2-4:30pm WEDNESDAY.

I took a pic of my porch light on.  (yeah, i know, it was on at 5pm...  we wasted electricity...)

My theory is::  we have a lotta electricity to waste to make up for the 5 days of misery.

OH... and for all of you DTE customers like me, I found an interesting tidbit...

(this is taken from their website)

Service Quality and Reliability Standards

Detroit Edison has implemented service quality and reliability standards defined by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). These standards provide customers a $25 credit upon request, if our investigation of your request determines you have experienced:
  • a power outage of more than 16 hours under normal conditions
  • an outage of more than 120 hours under catastrophic conditions
  • or eight or more outages during a 12-month period

***wow, DTE!  don't break your bank!!!  $25 for 120 hrs of no power under catastropic conditions!!***

I'm fillin out the form.  But pretty sure I'll be denied my $25 dollars cuz it was only 117 hrs....

KMA!

So, back to life on the {not-so-amish} farm....

Hope your weekend was enjoyable.  I have a story and memories to share for eons...  {eye roll!}
